Witches' Trials
7/26/09
The place: The German city of Wuerzburg
The time: 1627-1629 AD
The number of victims accused of practicing witchcraft, tortured to confess, sentenced, tied to the stake and burned: app. 200
The names and ages of a few victims: The daughter of the chancellor of Aichstaedt; the Baunachin, wife of an alderman; a foreign girl of twelve; the alderman Baunach; the daughter of Mrs. Bentzin, Mrs. Bentzin herself; Mr. Steinacher, a very rich man; a little girl of nine; her younger sister; the mother of the two little girls; the Goebel Babele, the most beautiful maiden of Wuerzburg; a little blind girl; the little boy of the alderman; etc.
A question. Did the spectators to the burnings who heard the shrieks and saw the writhing of the bodies go home, eat dinner with good appetite and go to bed to sleep soundly. The answer is: Yes! Because it was not the Goebel Babele who shrieked, but the devil in her. And who has pity with the devil?
The place: The German city of Wuerzburg
The time: March 16, 1945
The number of victims: app 5000. The victims shrieked and writhed in agony after the English Royal Airforce had dropped 961 bombs among them 572 incendiary bombs. Priceless religious art was burned alongside the humans. Did the pilots fly home, eat dinner with good appetite and go to bed to sleep soundly. The answer is: Yes! Because down there on the ground were not fellow Christians, but the minions of Hitler, the “devil” and who has pity with him and them. Since the U.S. is safely ensconced behind two oceans American wars were never wars to defend the homeland. They were imperial wars, promoted as wars of good versus evil, the opponent being demonized.
This is my reply to the open letter addressed to me by Gerry Smith. (MNH, 5/6/2009) She has swallowed the demonizing of humans which made the witches trial and Wuerzburg of March 1945 possible. Her letter reeks of ignorance, is steeped in self righteousness, and is utterly unchristian.
